What you will receive
You will receive a young purple mystery snail of about 1–2 cm, bred and raised by us in England. Colour varies naturally from one snail to the next, so yours may not look exactly like another.
How big do purple mystery snails get?
Your snail has a lot of growing to do. An adult shell is typically about 40–50 mm wide and 45–65 mm high, so give it room from the start.
Is a purple mystery snail the same as a purple apple snail?
You will see both names used in UK shops. Mystery snails belong to the apple snail family, and shops use the names loosely, so check the size and the species named on any listing before you compare snails.
Looking after a purple mystery snail
Purple snails need the same care as every other colour: harder water with a pH of 7.2 or higher, a temperature of about 21–26°C, and a tight lid so that they cannot climb out. Our mystery snail care guide explains how to set up your tank, what to feed and how to tell whether your snail is well.
